Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday put an end to the closure of 11 primary schools linked to the RSS in North Dinajpur on the ground that the institutions didn’t have proper infrastructure.
The North Dinajpur district inspector of schools (primary) had issued notifications on April 10, 2017, saying all the 11 schools were being closed down “with immediate effect”.
The RSS-affiliated Sarada Seva Trust has 111 primary schools named Sarada Sishu Tirtha in north Bengal. Of them, 11 are in North Dinajpur. The authorities of the 11 schools had challenged the notification in the high court.
Tapan Mukherjee, the state’s lawyer, told the court that the 11 schools didn’t conform to rules under the Right to Education. “The 11 do not have proper fire safety measures, trained teachers and educational atmosphere,” he said.
