Kolkata: Even though wind speeds have slowed down and the cyclone Komen has weakened into a depression as it crossed from Bangladesh into West Bengal late Friday night, the worry is of the continuing forecast of very heavy rains in the southern districts. Kolkata has already experienced night long rainfall and is almost on the verge of getting flooded all over again. Because of the monsoons, thousands of cusecs of water are being released from barrages, leading to flooding in low lying areas of Bankura, Birbhum and Burdwan districts. Heavy rains could make things worse in these areas, where almost 26,000 people have already been moved to 227 relief camps.
Due to the flood and the incessant on going rainfall already 39 people have died and the CM has already announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakhs to the kin of all those who have been a victim to the natural disaster. Already a red alert has been sounded in Bengal due to such pouring condition and more rainfall is expected in the next few days.
