Jalpaiguri: Chhath Puja will be celebrated in 2018 on November 13. In an initiative to maintain peace and tranquility during Chhath Puja, Jalpaiguri district police arranged a meeting along with the municipalities and Chhath Puja Committees of the district on Friday.
The meeting took place in Kotowali police station. Total fourteen ghats have been made for Chhath Puja. Saheb ghat, Babu Parar Ghat, Maskalai Bari Ghat, Samaj Para Ghat, Tikiapara Ghat, Sports Complex and others small ghats in the district. The administration will keep the arrangement of drinking water, power supply and pandal where people can take rest.
On the other hand, municipality issued prohibition on use of plastic carry bag. Reportedly, the Rajbari pond will not be used as Chhath Ghat. Teesta rive water flowing a bit far from the riverbank, so administration thinking of releasing water to avoid scarcity in the festive days. Security level was also an issue of discussion in that meeting.
Police said that, barricade will be built in Club Road which connects King Saheb Ghat. Tarffic and vehicle will be controlled in town and Disaster Management Team will be present to fight any untoward incident.
Municipality Chairman Council member Sandip Mahato, IC Bishwashroy Sarkar, Traffic OC Shanta Sil and others district officials were present in the meeting.
Talking on this regard, Sandip Mahato said that, ‘ Ambulance service will be available at King Saheb Ghat, Babu Para Ghat, Mashkalai Ghat which will be used in emergency situation. But we will be vigilant regarding th use ofplastic carry bags. Administration would not allow the use opf plastics in the Chhath ghats.
Apart from all the services, health service will be available at Mashkalai Bari Ghat and King Saheb Ghat. Twelve Green Police will be pressed into service from Municipality authority in the Chhath Ghats of the district.
