Chennai youth arrested for blackmailing Kolkata girl

Kolkata: A Chennai youth named Shivananda Mohan, a student of IIM, Kozhikode was arrested for harassing and blackmailing a Kolkata girl perusing a course in the same college.

As per the report, Shivananda allegedly threatened to kill Pratyasha Burman a resident of Dumdum Park and extorted five lakh rupees from her parents. He also sent derogatory messages to her family and friends.

The victim moved to police after Shivananda again demanded five lakh rupees from her. Based on her complaint, an arrest warrant has been issued by the ACJM Bidhannagar, following which he has been arrested from Chennai on May 21 and brought to Kolkata.

The accused has been charged under sec-323, 354D, 384, 385, 386, 387, 506 and 509 following which he has been sent to police custody till June 04.
