Chaos At Digha Over Eviction For Road Reformation


Digha: Chaos erupted in Duttapur village of East Midnapore over the eviction process which turned the locals furious. They expressed anger over eviction of five families in the village for the road reformation work. Akhil Giri, councilor of the area has assured to rebuild their houses under government scheme.

Reportedly, the government bought the land in Duttapur for road reformation purpose which comes in between Digha to Udaypur. The land owners were given money as compensation in return of land.

Friday was the last day for the land owners who were residing over the land. Despite the expiry of the deadline, Padmalochon Bera, Tuna Bera, Ashok Bera, Nikhil Mondal and Pintu Bera were still staying in the land.

The Sankarpur Development Council workers reached there for the land acquisitiion process on Friday morning and faced protest from the people. The agitated people said that those five families have been residing in Duttapur for the last two generations. They claimed that they will be homeless after the eviction.

Sankarpur Development Council member Akhil Giri, on this, said, “Five families will be rehabilitated under ‘Amar Bangla Griha’ scheme.” The eviction process started after he assured them a shelter.
