Chaos At Budge Budge Over Durga Immersion


Baruipur: Chaos broke out at Budge Budge area after fires were shot as a result of quarrels over the use of mics during the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga.

Several were dancing to songs during immersion. Due to over-crowding, people clashed against each other which led to quarrel among them. It later on led to clashes and then firing by an unknown youth. The firing and the clash left a student Rajiv Das injured. Seven have been arrested till now.

According to witnesses, during immersion, people started dancing to loud music. Members of two clubs accused each other. According to another source, the intensity of the quarrel increased as the Budge Budge Municipal’s vice-chairman Gautam Dasgupta’s name was not taken and announced.

Post this, Gautam Dasgupta arrived at the spot along with some of his men and started looking for a particular person. On not finding that person, fires were shot which injured a local youth.

Rajiv Das, the injured youth, has been admitted to Burdwan’s Budge Budge James Nursing Home.
