Barrackpore: A BJP worker named Ajay Roy died on Thursday while the second phase of Lok Sabha polls were underway. As a result, chaos erupted at North 24 Parganas’ Barrackpore.
21-year-old Ajay was going towards Ghosh lane from Barrackpore station in his bike. At that time, a nus of route 81 hit him from behind near the old Disha eye hospital.
According to witnesses, Roy was mowed down by the rear wheels of the bus. The locals rescued him and rushed him to the Barrackpore’s BN Basu sub-divisional hospital. But he was declared brought dead.
Soon after this, chaos erupted near Barrackpore station. The locals started protesting and blocked roads. They vandalised 4 private and 2 government buses. The bus which hit Ajay had already fled from the seen after the accident.
The police rushed to the spot and resorted to lathicharge. All the shops had to be shut down due to the situation. The police brought the situation under control.
