Change in electoral procedure at Presidency

Kolkata: Pressurized by the students, The Presidency University has been forced to bring a change in the electoral procedure of the university. A new election criteria is set up by the University authorities regarding the elections. According to the new rule, the percentage of attendance required by a student to cast his vote has been brought down to 30 from 60.

However, to stand as a candidate in the election, a student has to have 60 per cent attendance. The new electoral procedure has been instrumental in stopping the ongoing fast among the students. But it has not been fully able to stop the rebellion going on inside the campus.

From the students’ union point it has been said that a general vote will be organized among all the students to see whether an election is needed at the very moment. It would help in knowing the general students’ opinion regarding the election.
