Chandigarh: The Haryana government on Tuesday transferred senior IAS officer VS Kundu, over a month after state Bharatiya Janata Party President Subhash Barala’s son Vikas was arrested for stalking his daughter Varnika. VS Kundu, who had been overseeing the Haryana Tourism Department, has been posted as the additional chief secretary of the state Science and Technology Department, according to a report.
Kundu, who was looking after state’s Tourism Department, has been posted as Additional Chief Secretary, Science and Technology Department. He will keep looking after State University of Performing and Visual Arts, Rohtak, as its Vice-Chancellor. Notably, the development came hours after a Chandigarh court dismissed bail application of Vikash Barala on Tuesday.
However, in the transfer order, the government has not mentioned any reason for Kundu’s new posting. Among other IAS officers transferred in Haryana, Vijai Vardhan has been posted as Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Department, Jyoti Arora as Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, and Ashok Kumar Meena as Director, Development and Panchayats Department. Garima Mittal has been posted as Deputy Commissioner, Mahendragarh.
The Haryana government on Tuesday shifted additional chief secretary (tourism) Virender Kundu as ACS (science and technology), a relatively low-key department. The move has fuelled speculations that the transfer could be result of Kundu standing up against Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, whose son allegedly stalked Kundu’s daughter Varnika in Chandigarh recently.
Vikas Barala, the 23-year-old son of Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar, 27, were arrested for stalking Varnika, who is a city-based DJ.
