Kolkata: Within three days of a Trinamool leader being shot dead at Bandel railway station, the state government has changed the police commissioner of Chandannagar.
A notification issued today 1 July states that IPS officer Humayun Kabir has been appointed the new police commissioner of Chandannagar.
Kabir, who is now a DIG in Bengal Police’s traffic wing, replaces Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi. The latter has now been posted as a joint commissioner of police (administration) in Kolkata Police.
Chaturvedi’s transfer from Chandannagar is believed to be the fallout of Trinamool leader Dilip Ram being shot dead in broad-day at Bandel station on 29 June. Bandel comes under Chandannagar Police commissionerate.
Prior to this, on 29 June itself, the government had shunted Nirupam Ghosh, the inspector-in-charge of Chinsurah police station, and Deepashri Sengupta, the in-charge of Bandel police outpost.
