Century Old Library Gets New Look In Barrackpore

Barrackpore: West Bengal has contributed to expand the Bharat Chandra Library in Barrackpore. Another floor means the second floor has been inagurated by State Library Minister Siddiqullah Chowdhury.

The library situated in Bhatpara 25 number ward which carry a historical importance behind its existence. The library established on 1906. Literary king Bankim Chandra Cahtterjee was one of the founder membe among the twelve. Presently it has 500 registered readers.

Reportedly, entire renovation cost took 40 lakh rupees. State government has provided 32 lakh of the total amount and Councilor of Jagaddal Lagislative Assembly Parash Dutta has supported with 5 lakh rupees. Bhatpara Municipality separately alloted 50 thousands for buying new books.

MLA of Bhatpara Arhun Singh, Garulia Municipality chairman Sunil and MLA of Jagaddal Parash Dutta were present in the programme. Arjun Singh said, “Municipality will bear the expense to make the library AC. No development took place in Left regime. Now it moving upward.”

State Library Minister said, “Schools within 1 to 1.5 km of the library will get rerference books and assured other developmental works. Library Day will be observed on August 31. The State Library Minister will launch a special directory which will carry special information of West Bengal rather India.
