Kolkata: Training guns at the PM Modi led NDA government, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused the Centre of using CBI as a tool to manipulate and scare the members of her party to attain political benefit.
Addressing a rally organized by Muslim leader of Jamiat Ulama-E-Hind, West Bengal, Siddiqullah Chowdhury at Kolkata’s Shahid Minar, Mamata said, “They are using CBI as an instrument to instill fear in our people. Our MP Mithun Chakroborty is so scared that he hardly talks to me now.”
The statement is seen by many as a reference to CBI grilling Trinamool leaders including Mithun Chakraborty for their alleged connection to the multi-crore Saradha Scam.
Extending support to Bollywood actor Aamir Khan over the latter’s intolerance remark, Mamata said, “The constitution grants us freedom of speech. Nobody can dictate us what to say or what to eat. No one has the right to ask Aamir to leave India.”
Projecting herself as the crusader of tolerance, the CM heaped praises on herself and termed West Bengal as the panacea of communal harmony but cleverly surpassed the many incidents of communal clashes in the state including banning Durga Puja on the request of a few minority families in a Birbhum village.
