New Delhi: Escalating the power tussle between Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, the centre on Friday openly came out to back Jung by issuing a notification clearly telling Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that Governor Jung is the sole authority on matters like the appointment of senior bureaucrats.
The notification, released by the Home Ministry, says since the IAS and IPA offices are administered by the Centre, Delhi LG has unilateral powers over them and may choose to consult the Chief Minister. The note is aimed at ending the week-long feud between Kejriwal and Jung, with both accusing each other of transgressing on each others’ powers.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh, accusing them of succumbing to what he called the “transfer-posting industry” in the national capital. Sisodia claimed the posting and transfer of bureaucrats in Delhi is the duty of an elected government and not the Lt Governor.
On the other hand, reacting aggressivly to the notification, Kejriwal said it showed BJP’s nervousness about the anti-corruption efforts of his government.
“BJP first lost Del elections. Today’s notification shows BJP’s nervousness abt our anti-corruption efforts. BJP again lost today(sic)” Kejriwal said in his tweet.
