Centre sacks director of ISI Kolkata


Kolkata: The central government has sacked Dr. Bimal Roy the director of the prestigious Indian Statistical Institute of Kolkata for Indiscipline and financial impropriety. He was sacked by the ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Dr Roy is one of the Padma Shri recipients this year. In an order dated June 10, the ministry has accused Roy of ‘indiscipline’ and ‘financial and administrative irregularity’. The ministry in its order states, “a number of general and specific matters of financial and administrative irregularities which show the direct or supervisory responsibilities for acts of omission or commission on the part of Roy are available in the ministry.”

The decision comes just a month before Dr Roy’s term ends as Director of the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata. Roy has been replaced by director-designate Sanghmitra Bandyopadhyay, who was supposed to take charge of the institute on August 1.
