Centre Plans Bill to Curb Underage Driving, Punish Parents


New Delhi: A bill which will put an end to driving by the underaged and punish their parents for violating the law is being prepared by the government. The bill is likely to make provisions to punish parents if their underage children are caught driving.

A committee authorised by Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has been set up under the chairmanship of Rajasthan Transport Minister Yunus Khan. It will have transport ministers of all the states. The committee will submit report within 15 days on the basis of which the bill will be finalised.

Gadkari had on Sunday said all efforts were being made to bring down the number of fatalities in road accidents across the country by 50%.
