Centre planning to decontrol urea

New Delhi: The NDA Government at the Centre is reportedly drawing up a plan to decontrol urea the most important fertilizer in the agricultural sector of India.

The diesel prices were deregulated in last October and LPG can happen soon after the Delhi elections next month. The government is already pushing through the direct cash transfers (DCT) scheme for the payment of subsidies.

According to a report, Modi Government is likely to decontrol the urea as its next step. The government is planning to raise the fertilizer prices in stages over a period of three years and pay farmers the subsidies directly into their back accounts related with their Adhaar cards.

There are also plans to categorize the prices of the feedstock keeping in mind certain criteria. By categorizing the prices it is being hoped that all fertilizer companies will get a reasonable business.
