Update: CBI has deployed two officers to monitor Madan Mitra at the hospital.
Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday visited the private hospital to see Madan Mitra currently undergoing treatment at the facility for breathing problems.
Accused in the Saradha scam, West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra has been placed under police surveillance on Friday as per the directives of Calcutta High court.
Armed police constables have been put on guard in front of Madan Mitra’s cabin at the hospital. Use of mobile phones inside the cabin has also been barred and no one is allowed to meet the minister except his family.
Madan, who spent most of his 324 jail days at SSKM Hospital pleading severe ailment had enjoyed undue privileges owing to his stature, said sources. A nurse of the hospital said the cops present their acted like Trinamool agents.
The Calcutta High Court has placed Madan Mitra under house arrest till November 17 hearing a CBI petition against his bail. He had been granted bail by the Alipore Court on October 31.
