Kolkata: The Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its first summoning notice to Trinamul Congress Party’s Iqbal Ahmed on Thursday. The CBI has asked him to be
present at the Nizam Palace on June 10 or on Saturday. Iqbal Ahmed is the deputy mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and an MLA of Khanakul.
This is the first time the CBI has summoned someone from the TMC party. He has been asked to be present at 11am at the Nigam Palace. It has been alleged that Iqbal had introduced Mathew to top TMC leaders. It is likely for this reason he has been summoned first. After CBI had started its investigation, Iqbal Ahmed was admitted for quite some time at the hospital. Now the question arises on what will be his response to this CBI notice.
The Kolkata Police had summoned the deputy mayor on July 2016 over the same Narada issue. At the interrogation, he was asked about his association with Narada CEO Mathew Samuel where he said that he was introduced to Mathew via a taxi driver.
Several top and powerful TMC leaders, along with a police official were allegedly seen taking money in a video published by Narada as a part of their sting operation. Several among them were MPs and MLAs. Questions are also arising over whether the other MPs and MLAs allegedly seen in the video would be summoned too.
