CBI questions Madan’s ‘Special Treatment’

Kolkata: Ever since West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra was remanded in judicial custody on December 28, in connection with Multi crore Ponzi scam, there were allegations from the opposition that he has been receiving special attention from the jail authorities for being a Minister. On Friday CBI, the agency investigating the Saradha scam complained before a special CBI court about the special facilities received by the jailed Minister. CBI also directed a letter towards the authorities at Alipore Central Jail where Mitra is currently lodged expressing concern in this regard.
According to sources, in its letter to the jail authorities, CBI has questioned the special treatment which had also earlier been alleged by Kunal Ghosh, who complained before court, “He is in a hotel, making phone calls.” The court had asked him to submit his written complaint before court.
Mitra has already refuted the charges against him and has asked the opposition to come to jail and see the condition in which he is staying.
The Minister, who is in jail since December 28, was arrested by CBI. He is one of the main accused in this scam with charges of receiving monetary benefits from Saradha group Chairman Sudipta Sen which left thousands of investors penniless, robbing them off even with their last source of survival.
