New Delhi: Principal secretary of CMO Rajender Kumar was arrested on Monday in a 50 crore corruption case involving purchase of computers. Four others were arrested along with him, but the Central Bureau of Investigation, which was investigating the case, say Mr Kumar is the kingpin of the scam.
The officer has been accused of setting up companies to provide work contracts without tenders at a huge loss to the Delhi government.
Sources in the agency say the scam dates back to 2006, when Mr Kumar started a front company, Endeavours Systems Private Limited, to provide IT solutions and software. The company empaneled with Public Sector Units to get government work without tenders.
Mr Kumar is a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, who was appointed Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in February, when the Aam Aadmi Party came to power for the second time. Like Mr Kejriwal, Mr Kumar is also an IIT alumnus.
