Delhi: Supreme Court has asked Karnataka has to give 6000 cusecs of water to Tamil  daily from September 21 to 27.The Centre has been instructed to constitute the Cauvery Management Board within four weeks, to regulate the release of water.

However, Karnataka government was not too impressed with the order. “We will have to sacrifice our drinking water for irrigation purposes in Tamil Nadu,” it said. The state has called the order “wrong”, contending it does not have enough to drink.

The amount has been hiked by 3000 cusecs by the apex court. Karnataka has already released 1,68,000 cusecs of water, leading to vandalism across the state. Curfew was imposed and buses were torched.

Ahead of today’s hearing, security has been beefed up across parts of Karnataka to avoid repetition of the earlier violence. Section 144 has been imposed.
