1. How was the journey from a software professional to a producer?

It was not planned. After quitting my job I was working with my friend Amit Chakraborty for a brief period on social media. That’s when I was introduced to noted author and producer Ram Kamal Mukherjee in Mumbai. Ram Kamal da was co-producing a serial with Rajshree Ojha for Zee TV and was planning to release his first fiction ‘Long Island Iced Tea’. While interacting with him on various occasions in Mumbai we realized that both of us had something in common, and that was passion for cinema.

2. How did this idea came into your mind?

Actually it all started with the book launch of Ram Kamal da’s first fiction ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ in Kolkata. We had four biggest superstars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dev, Paoli Dam and Rukmini Maitra gracing the occassion. After that event Ram Kamal da and his wife Sarbani di, offered me to join them and work as a team. I always wanted to create good content and I had faith in both of them.

3. You belong from a family that is into medical profession and as the industry you’re into are different how did you find your own comfort zone in it?

That’s true. In fact no one in my entire family had ever ventured into this industry. But I wanted to do something different in life. I was waiting for the right time and platform.

4. How was your experience while working with the Bollywood diva Esha Deol and what’s your expectation from ‘Cakewalk’?

I think Esha Deol Takhtani is one of the finest human being and a thorough professional. I can imagine Esha agreeing to work with Ram Kamal da and Sarbani di, because they know each other since many years. But she trusted a new producer and showed faith in me, that mattered a lot. I owe Esha for giving me a chance to fulfill my dream. She is the best.

5. To whom do you owe your success?

I think I will give the entire credit to my parents for letting me chase my dream. Then Sarbani di, for standing beside all of us like the Rock of Gibraltar. Esha Deol and Hema Malini ji for being so supportive with our maiden venture Cakewalk. Bumba da and Dev for their support and good wishes in all our ventures. My co producer Shailendra Kumar and Dinesh Gupta for walking hand in hand. And of course, Ram Kamal da, without whom none of this would have happened.

6. As the ‘casting couch’ is an emerging issue now, many Hollywood and Bollywood actors have raised their voice against it what are your views regarding this, as a producer how do you deal with the actors?

Casting couch can never make you a star. It’s out of sheer desperation people succumb to such pressure. As a producer I have experienced that it’s very important to have a clean image. I come from a middle class Bengali family, and I have certain values in life. There are two types of people, one who would always criticise you and one who would always encourage you. In our first venture we have introduced fresh talents like Tarun Malhotra and Anindita Bose. We will always work with established actors and fresh faces from this industry. As a producer I want to create a good bank of actors as well.

7. Do you have any plan to produce big banner movie in future?

Yes, Ram Kamal da is working on a feature film concept and by 2019 we will be ready to announce that project.

8. What special elements makes Assorted motion pictures different from the other production houses?

Assorted Motion Pictures promises to create content for digital platform that will set a benchmark. Though Cakewalk is a short feature film, the poster of the film was Launched in London in presence of Hemaji and UK media. The film was featured in BBC radio and TV. We did a massive Kolkata promotion and now we will be travelling all across India and abroad with the film. We believe in treating each and every product of Assorted Motion Pictures special. We make our films with passion and promote it with equal love.

9. Why did you chose the name Assorted motion pictures?

Because in today’s time we have too many platforms. We want to create content for all mediums. And we are here to create a bouquet.

10. What’s your success mantra that has made you an inspiration for many?

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my experience of competitive athletics, it’s that the best athlete doesn’t always win. The one with the most fight and determination always wins out. Someone else may be bigger, faster, or temporarily ahead of the pack, but you will come out on top if you fight smart and stick it out.
