Kabul: A relatively heavy explosion rocked capital Kabul earlier on Monday with preliminary reports suggesting the blast has taken place in the vicinity of airport. Afghan Ministry of Interior affairs spox confirms that 1 civilian killed & 4 civilians wounded in car bomb explosion near Hawa Shinasi area.
Sediq Sediq, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), confirmed that the blast took place after a vehicle packed with explosives in the easter part of Hamid Karzai airport. There are also reports of sporadic gun fire in the area following the blast.
There are no reports regarding the type of the explosion and casualties as a result of the blast. Today’s incident comes nearly three weeks after a coordinated suicide attack on a diplomatic mission in capital Kabul which left at least eight people dead.
The anti-government armed militants also launched three rockets on Kabul city a week ago which landed in parts of the city, including in Pashtunistan Watt located near the ministry compounds.
