Berlin: German police say an explosive device caused a car to explode while it was driving along a road in central Berlin this morning.
The blast killed the driver of the vehicle as it drove through the western district of Charlottenburg at around 8am.
The deputy chief spokesman for Berlin police, Carsten Mueller said that “investigators are working on the assumption that it was an explosive device” inside or on the vehicle that caused the blast.
Mueller said investigators were still trying to determine the man’s identity and couldn’t immediately provide details about the vehicle
On Twitter police shared a photo of a silver Volkswagen Passat on the street, its windows blown out and its front end smashed in.
“Our investigators believe it was an explosive device that caused the vehicle to explode,” said Berlin police, who have sealed off the area.
