Calcutta University To Present D-Lit To CM Mamata


Kolkata: The Calcutta University is all set to confer the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the D. Lit. Degree. As per reports, Mamata is given the D.Lit. for her industrial and literary social services.

On Wednesday the Calcutta University on its Senate-Syndicate meeting has decided to present the D.Lit. Degree to the honourable CM on 11 January. Following with a cultural programme the degree will be given to her at the Nazrul Mancha.

According to Sonali Chakraborty, Vice Chancellor of the Calcutta University, Banerjee has agreed to the decision. On the day of felicitation CM Mamata will also present the Dialect Speech.

Doctor of Letters (D.Litt., Litt.D., D. Lit., or Lit. D.) is an academic degree which is sometimes considered to be beyond the Ph.D. and equal to the Doctor of Science (Sc.D. or D.Sc.). It is awarded in many countries by universities and learned bodies in recognition of achievement in the humanities, original contribution to the creative arts or scholarship and other merits.
