Calcutta National Medical College Student Dies After falling From Terrace

Kolkata: A second-year student of Calcutta National Medical College died after allegedly falling from the buildings terrace, police said on Friday.

Somak Chowdhury, a second-year student of general surgery at Calcutta National Medical College, fell from the terrace of the emergency ward building at around 10 pm on Thursday, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.

A letter has been recovered from the student’s pocket, police said.

“We have spoken to his friends, fellow students, the professors and found that Chowdhury was quite a jolly person. We are probing the matter,” the officer added.

Post mortem report of the deceased, however, revealed that he was not drunk at the time as there was “no alcohol” found in his stomach, a source in Kolkata Police said.

“It seems this could be a case of suicide. Our probe is yet to get over. We need some more time,” he said.
