Kolkata: Lawyers across the state are likely to observe a cease-work on Friday. The three lawyers’ bodies in the HC — the Bar Association, The Incorporated Law Society and the Bar Library Club — are scheduled to meet the Chief Justice of India on Friday on the issue.
The lawyers are likely to cease work today to express solidarity with agitating Calcutta High Court lawyers to demand appointment of more judges.
However, the lawyers’ strike that has kept Calcutta High Court shut since February 19 was extended March 13 by the Bar Library Club and The Bar Association on Tuesday declared their protest since March 16.
The Bar Library Club represents 850 barristers. The Bar Association has more than 10,000 general advocates as its members while the Incorporate Law Society is made up of nearly 450 attorneys.
