Bus Carrying Nearly 55 Paseengers Fall Into River In WB


Murshidabad: A devastating bus accident took place at Balirghat Bridge of Daulatabad near Murshidabad on Monday early morning.

Reportedly, the bus has crossed the edge wall of the bridge and jumped into river Bhairabi with packed passengers.

According to the local sources, race between two buses triggered the accident. Four people swam through river to reach the riverbank. But there’s no trace of the bus till now. Seven injured persons were fished out from the canal, said the police. The injured were admitted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital here. Divers are involved into the rescue operation. Search operation is still on to find the bus with the help of a crain. Nearly 55 passengers were inside the bus as per the report.

Irked by the alleged delay in the arrival of the police, angry locals torched a police vehicle and damaged a fire tender. The accident occurred at Balirghat under Daulatabad police station area at 6 AM. The bus was going from Shikarpur in Nadia district to Malda.

The area turned into a battleground after the incident. Police have used tear gas to control the situation.
