Bus Accident In Murshidabad Leaves 10 Dead


Baharampur: At least eight people died while 14 were injured as a bus fell into a canal (Nayanjuli) in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on

The bus was speeding and lost control near Begunbari of Murshidabad district, according to local sources. An eyewitness said, “The bus was on its way from Amtala to Beltala. It was an old bus and always speeding on the road.”

“When the bus fell into the canal, there were people boarding the top also. It is a common practice in the rural areas. When the bus fell, women and children in the bus almost drowned. Those on the top jumped into the water and survived. But they were bleeding profusely when taken to the hospital,” eyewitness said.

At first locals came to the rescue of the accident victims. They pulled out the passengers from the water and rushed them to the state-run District hospital. Police reached the spot after a long time, which enraged local villagers. The locals blocked the road.
