Srinagar: In a major victory, security forces on Wednesday neutralised Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist Naveed Jatt, who had murdered senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari on June 14. Jatt was a Pakistani and had escaped from police custody from a Srinagar hospital on February 6 this year.
Bukhari, the Editor-in-Chief of English daily “Rising Kashmir”, was gunned down by three bike-borne individuals when he came out of his office in Press Enclave and was boarding his car. Two of his security guards were also killed.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police had later revealed that the plot to kill Bukhari was hatched in Pakistan and that the LeT carried out the crime.
In March, i.e. a month after he had escaped from the SMHS hospital, a video had surfaced showing Jutt with Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in a forest area of south Kashmir. Armed with an automatic rifle, Jutt was seen in the video exchanging hugs with terrorists.
