Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) seized gold biscuits worth Rs 41,81,760/- in the area of border out post Mustafapur of 23BN BSF, Krishnanagar Sector.
On 14th Dec 2017, a specific information was received regarding smuggling of gold in the general area of BOP Mustafapur of 23 Bn BSF under Sector Krishnanagar. On reciept of the information, troops of Border Out Post Mustafapur planned a special operation and carried out patrolling/ambush in the unfenced area of border village Gangolia near International Boundary (IB).
Amubsh party observed suspicious movement of a woman coming from Bangladesh towards India approx 200 Mtrs inside of the IB, on seeing this, the BSF Party approached towards the woman to ascertain her identity. On observing the movement of BSF party, the woman turned back and fled away towards Bangladesh Territory leaving behind a strip type plastic bag. Immediately, the BSF party collected the bag.
On opening the bag, 07 Nos of Gold Biscuits weighing 1.440 KGs approx value of Rs.41,81,760/- wrapped with plastic tape was found. The seized gold biscuits have been handed over to the Customs office Bagdah for further disposal.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of Border from smuggling point of view Shri P S R Anjaneyulu, IPS, Inspector General BSF South Bengal Frontier has issued operational guidelines to further strengthen Border domination so as to effectively check the menace of smuggling and other activities of Anti National Elements on South Bengal Border with Bangladesh.
In the year 2017, BSF South Bengal Frontier has seized 34.107 Kgs of Gold (including this seizure) of approx value Rs.9,85,49,339/- and apprehended 11 Gold smugglers.
