Earlier last week, Anil Kumar, a constable with the 52 Battalion, posted near Sriganganagar was arrested by the cops for helping smugglers. He is presently in judicial custody.

Prem Singh was arrested from his native place in Tarn Taran when he was on leave. He was posted as a head constable with the 72 Battalian of BSF in Barmer in Rajasthan.

According to CIA, Singh used to help easy movement of drugs and arms through the border for three drug smugglers — Gurjant Singh, Sandeep Singh and Jatinder Singh — in cross border smuggling of drugs, arms and ammunition.

The CIA wing of SAS Nagar police had earlier arrested the three accused — Gurjant Singh alias Bhollu, 26; Sandeep Singh, 25, residents of Tarn Taran and Jatinder Singh alias Jindi, 34, a resident of Ludhiana — on December 29 with cache of arms and ammunition smuggled from Pakistan.

The police had also recovered mobile phones and a Pakistan SIM card from their possession. The accused were in regular touch with the Pakistani drug suppliers over phone, the police said.
