British Navy Detains 23 Indian Fishermen


Kanyakumari: British Navy detained 23 Indian fishermen-15 from Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu and 8 from Kerala in Diego Garcia for allegedly trespassing into British Indian Ocean Territory, said fisheries officials on Thursday.

The fishermen sailed from Muttom fishing harbour in Kanyakumari on September 27 and were rounded up by the British navy in their territorial waters on October 6.

The fishermen called up their relatives on Wednesday, communicating that by the British navy had detained them and their two boats — Wisdom and Sacred Heart.
