Ranchi: A hardcore Maoist wanted in four cases was arrested by Giridih police here on Tuesday morning at Bandh village forest area. The arrested rebel has been identified as Jageshwar Turi, belonging to Nunuchand squad under Pirtand police station, said Giridih superintendent of police Surendra Kumar Jha.
ASP Deepak Kumar said that the arrested naxal Jageshwar Turi has admitted his involvement in four cases related to naxal activities in and around Giridih and Dhanbad. Police claimed that it was a major breakthrough for the district police. The naxal was evading arrest from Giridih and Dhanbad police for last 14 years. Police also recovered one .303 rifle and 118 cartridges from him.
Kumar said that Jageshwar Turi gradually became a dreaded name in the district and surrounding area and his influence was gradually growing. His name was enough to run shivers down the spine for businessmen in the area and was involved and wanted in around four big cases including in the year 2004 he had blown up a van killing six people under Pirtand police station. He had also triggered an IED on a truck on NH-2 near Topchachi area in Dhanbad district.
Police said that Turi was also involved in two major Naxal incidents. The arrest was made on Tuesday morning from a hill near Bandh village by a team of Giridih police and the CRPF personnel led by ASP Deepak Kumar and Assistant Commandant Sanjay Kumar of CRPF
