New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to interfere in WestBengal Panchayat election process and asked BJP to approach the Calcutta High Court for extending the deadline for filling nomination papers.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra agreed to take up the matter for urgent hearing after a request from BJP counsel Aishwarya Bhati. Bhati moved the plea before a bench headed by Justice R.K. Agarwal, which had on Monday rejected a BJP plea seeking central forces and e-filing of nominations amid allegations that ruling Trinamul activists were stopping rivals from filing papers.
The panchayat polls are scheduled to be held on May 1, 3, and 5. The votes will be counted on May 8. According to the notification, the last date of filing nominations is April 9 and the last date of scrutiny of the nominations is April 11.
