Srinagar: Militants on Monday hurled a grenade on police party near Batpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Official sources told that militants lobbed the grenade on police officer’s vehicle near Batpora. In the blast some policemen are said to have received splinter injuries, they said.

Reports said the grenade missed the target and exploded on road side, leaving seven civilians injured. Sources said cops retaliated by firing some gunshots.

After the high aliert in Srinagar, the fourth grenade attack has taken place within a span of around four hours in Srinagar on June 2, the latest one being in Mominabad-Batamaloo area.

Terrorists lobbed a grenade in Mominabad-Batamaloo here, less than an hour after a grenade was lobbed at Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Magarmal Bagh area.

Prior to that, a grenade was lobbed at a CRPF deployment at Badshah Bridge in Srinagar, injuring one jawan.

“A total of six CRPF personals were deployed when the incident took place. The terrorists who were in an auto threw the grenade targeting the rear wheel of the CRPF vehicle. One personnel of 132 Battalion sustained splinter injury on his back and was immediately admitted to a local hospital,” an official said.

There have been at least six grenade attacks in Kashmir Valley, including one at the residence of ruling PDP MLA Mushtaq Shah, since Friday. The grenade attacks came on a day when clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in Srinagar after the death of a youth who was allegedly hit by a CRPF vehicle during another confrontation on Friday.
