Kolkata: The Special Task Force booked four people in connection with illegal fire arms deal on Sunday evening from Babughat.
The four men who were arrested are Ajay Kumar Pandit (Guddu Pandey) age 40,Jaysankar Pandey age 36. Both Ajay and Jaysankar hails from Bihar. Umesh Ray(Bhola Ray) age 21 and Kartik Shaw age 40. Both Umesh and Kartik are from Ishapore North 24 Paraganas.The STF kept a close watch on these dealers of illegal arms and on Sunday they nabbed them from Babughat. Police said that they have seized seven revolvers, one carver gun and ten live cartridges form them.
After interrogating with these four accused person’s two more names came out who were later arrested by the STF.These two are Sukhda Murmu age 45 and Sushanta Basu(Basu da) age 48. Both of them hails from Ichhapur. It is said that both of them are Junior Work Manager in Ishapore Rifle Factory.They used to sell the scrap part of the defected fire arms to Ajay and Jay. Both Ajay and Jay got great advantages from them by getting the scrap parts of the arms at a low price.These parts were later assembled with other fire arms bought in same process from Punjab and they assembled all these parts in Bihar.
The Kolkata Police DC, STF Murlidhar Sharma said “All of them were into this business since a long time from 2008, police from different states kept a close watch on them and had nabbed them but they escaped somehow. But Kolkata Police STF with full information kept an eagle eye on them and nabbed this group. Earlier they has supplied arms to the maoists and some in Nepal and North Bengal too.”He also added that this gang has also supplied arms to Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC).
Police STF presented all these accused in court today and has asked for fourteen days police custody. Meanwhile, police STF is investigating thius matter. With the interrogation they are trying to dig out some more information on this regard whether any other links or any other illegal chains are connected with this arm deal.
