Kolkata: Left supported West Bengal govt employee Co-ordination Committee has called 48 hours strike on 8th and 9th January to protest against the extension of the sixth pay commission tenure. Note that in this two days, the 48-hour strike across the country has been called by the Left Front also.
The co-ordination committee will observe the strike on January 8 and 9, especially in the state government offices, to prevent workers’ attendance. Bengal government employees are unlikely to see a pay revision. Mamata Banerjee government extended the tenure of its Sixth Pay Commission for the fifth time in a row. The latest extension, is for six months and is valid till 27 May 2019.
The state government had instituted the one-man Sixth Pay Commission headed by Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) professor Abhirup Sarkar on 28 November 2015. Its initial term was for six months but the state government kept on extending its tenure. The last extension was to end on 27 November and now, it has been given an extension for six more months.
