Kolkata: A major fire broke out at a godown near Armenian Ghat in Kolkata on Thursday. Twenty tenders have reached the spot to bring the fire under control. Fire broke out at around 9.30 am. No casualty and injury have been reported so far.The whole area becomes dark with thick black smoke.
The fire broke out on Thursday morning in a godown on Armenian Ghat off Strand Road containing combustible chemicals and diesel, triggering a series of explosions that kept feeding the flames and making it difficult for the firemen to douse the blaze.
The fire broke out at 9.30am in a godown. Twenty fire tenders struggling for over three hours to bring the leaping flames under control. Nobody was injured or got stuck in the fire. As a preventive measure firemen started spraying water in shanties located close to the point of fire to restrict the blaze.
The fire broke out much during the office hour traffic and the leaping flames triggered panic among vehicles and pedestrians walking towards Howrah Bridge. Many of them stopped on their way and clicked pictures of the raging blaze. The entire length of the road that runs parallel to the Hooghly is lined with godowns, many of which are located on land owned by the KPT.
