Update: MCOCA court in Mumbai sentenced gangster Chhota Rajan and 7 others to life imprisonment.
Mumbai: A special Mumbai court has found underworld gangster Chhota Rajan guilty in the J Dey murder case. Dey was a crime journalist who was gunned down in Mumbai in 2011 at the behest of Rajan.
Jigna Vora, a fellow journalist, who was alleged to have instigated Rajan against Dey was acquitted by the Mumbai court.
J Dey was gunned down by bike-borne assailants on June 11, 2011 near his home in Mumbai’s Powai. Within a fortnight, the Mumbai Police triumphantly announced that they had cracked the murder case, arresting seven sharpshooters of the Chhota Rajan gang.
At a press conferrence on June 27, then Mumbai Police commissioner Arup Patnaik said that Chhota Rajan had ordered J Dey’s killing. Seen here in this photo from that press conferrence are Patnaik and the then Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy with the gun that was used to kill J Dey.
