Kolkata: The ‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been started on Thursday morning 8am and it will head towards Gangasagar through Hazra, following Diamond Harbour and finally will reach Gangasagar where the ashes of Vajpayee will be immersed. State BJP President Dilip Ghosh and BJP MP Roopa Ganguly have also joined the procession. Union Textile minister Smriti Irani is scheduled to attend the Asthi Kalash Yatra in Kolkata, BJP sources said today.
The BJP party will be organising ‘Asthi kalash yatras’ in different states to immerse the ashes in 100 rivers across the country.
Meanwhile, the procession has been started in Kolkata. Dlip Ghosh along with other BJP leaders and followers have started the ‘Asthi kalash yatra’ in the city.
The state BJP president and other leaders of the party will immerse Vajpayee’s ashes in the Ganges. However, apart from that, the proposals of such like immersion in the ghats of Navadwip, Tribeni, Farakka and in the river Mahananda at Siliguri are being reviewed.
“Minister Smriti will join with us somewhere in the middle of the journey.” State BJP President Dilip Ghosh said. The ‘asthi kalash’ was brought to Kolkata by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh and general secretary Syantan Basu on Wednesday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday handed urns with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s ashes to party presidents from across the country.
