Baruipur: After Posta and Siliguri another under-construction bridge collapses in Kakdwip in West Bengal on Monday morning. The bridge was under construction over the Kalnagini river. No casualty reported as of now. The incident has sparked panic in the area. The administration officials reached the spot after getting the information. Earlier, this month the Majherhat bridge collapse in the city has left scars in people’s mind and yet another bridge collapse incident took place again
The locals claimed that they had earlier noticed cracks in the bridge. This is the fourth bridge collapse incident in the state in two months. Earlier, a portion of an under-construction flyover on NH31D which is part of East West Corridor collapsed at Kantibhita in Phansidewa, around 25km from Siliguri in August 11.Back to back the horrific incident of Majherhat bridge collapse on 4 September 2018. The bridge collapsed at around 4:45 PM on this day, resulting in the death of three people while injuring more than thirty people.
Another old bridge collapsed near Siliguri in north Bengal, leaving a truck driver injured. The bridge connected the Manganj and Phansidewa areas to Siliguri, a major city in north Bengal. Phansidewa is around 22 kms from Siliguri. And today another under-construction bridge collapsed in Kakdwip. The frequent bridge collapse incidents in the recent years in Bengal have left the people losing trust from the administration and the government. Locals demands regular maintenance of the bridges.
