Krishnanagar: A CPM worker was killed when alleged Trinamool cadres hurled bombs at Bhaluka in Nadia’s Krishnanagar on Monday evening.
Hoizul Sheikh, 38, had just come out of a tea stall when a few bombs hit him and he died on the spot. Hoizul had switched from Trinamool to the CPM last week.
The trouble started about two days ago when CPM-backed Independent candidates refused to withdraw from the panchayat poll fray despite alleged threats from Trinamool workers.
On Monday evening, suspected Trinamool activists went to Anandabas village under Bhaluka gram panchayat and hurled bombs indiscriminately targeting houses of CPM supporters and Independent candidates.
The Bhaluka area committee secretary of the CPM, Brajen Biswas, said Trinamool had killed Hoizul in a planned manner.
