Kolkata: ABVP Kolkata Unit organised a candle march on Wednesday from Sulekha to 8B Jadavpur Bus stand to protest for the justice of the victim and demanded Life sentence for accused Sheik Hafizul.
Following a procession, a roadshow was also held near the 8B bus stand. They said that the Honarable CM is not at all worried about the increasing rate of crime against women. A 20-year-old woman from West Bengal’s Bolpur region succumbed to her injuries after she tried setting herself ablaze, following blackmail and alleged rape by a construction worker.
Accused was engaged in constructing a house for the woman at Rajatpur village on the outskirts of Bolpur under the government’s Gitanjali Housing Scheme. During this, he shot on his mobile phone some photographs of her while she was bathing in a village pond.
Subsequently, he allegedly blackmailed her using those photographs and compelled her to go with him to Bolpur’s Deer Park where he raped her. The sexual exploitation continued even after this and unable to take it anymore, the woman set herself on fire on 11 December.
State BJP’s women wing president Locket Chatterjee, who had called on the woman earlier, went to the hospital today as well. Speaking to reporters, she criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool saying that while they readily provided financial aid to the family of Afrajul Khan of Malda burned death in Rajasthan, there is no such humanitarian gesture for the family of this woman.
