Update: Death toll rises to 13. Parliamentarian says the blast could be a suicide attack preceded by gunfire: officials. An imambargah appears to be the target. No one has claimed responsibility yet.

Update: Death toll rises to 6. Over 50 injured.

Islamabad: Blast in Pakistani city of Parachinar kills at least five, wounds 40, reports Reuters. The blast reportedly took place in the crowded Noor market.

Eyewitness say it was near the female entrance of the main Imam Bargah, sources report. The market place is a busy area and has several shops. It is also near of the main imambargahs.

Rescue and security teams have rushed to the scene and the area has been cordoned off. The political administration has declared emergency at all hospitals in the area.

Parachinar is located west of Peshawar and has a population of 50,000. In the wake of sectarian clashes in 2007 army and paramilitary forces set up several checkpoints on roads leading to the town.

The cause and nature of the blast is not known yet.
