Blast In Firecracker Factory, 7 Dead

Lucknow(IANS): Seven persons were killed and six critically injured when a stockpile of crackers exploded at a firecracker factory in Budayun district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday evening, police said.

The tragedy took place at Rasoolpur in a house where the firecrackers were being manufactured ahead of Diwali. The explosion led to many neighbouring houses developing cracks on the walls.

Police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) were pressed into service to rescue those believed to be buried under the rubble.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the explosion. The chief minister has also ordered the district magistrate to take all necessary action and provide relief to the injured.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday had directed that only green firecrackers would be sold in the country which are less polluting, but refused to impose a blanket ban on firecrackers.
