The North 24-Parganas police have arrested BJP activist Jagadish Mondal from Sandeshkhali, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Trinamool Congress worker Qyaum Mollah.
The investigating officers had specific information about his hideout and arrested him late on Tuesday night. Police are carrying out raids to nab the other culprits involved in the crime.
Clashes had broken out in Sandeshkhali under Basirhat sub-division of North 24-Parganas between the BJP and Trinamool Congress activists two weeks ago. The incident had triggered tension at various villages in Sandeshkhali. Two BJP activists were also killed during the incident. Last week, the district police arrested four persons, including the main accused Akhtar Ali, in connection with the murder of BJP activist Pradip Das.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that Ali had shot Das. The district police subsequently got a breakthrough in arresting the culprits who were involved in his murder.
