BJP wins Assam Civic Polls

Guwahati: Congress suffers yet another blow in elections after the Delhi Poll debacle, whereas BJP has been able to clinch victory in the recently concluded Assam civic body polls, the results of which were declared on Thursday.

The BJP has won 340 out of 746 Municipal board and town committee wards in the Northeastern state. BJP has won 340 wards under the 38 Municipal bodies whereas Congress has won 232 under 17 municipal bodies.

Asom Gana Parishad has won 39 wards followed by All India United Democratic Front winning eight seats and NCP winning 39 wards. The CPI (M) and Bodoland People’s Front has won one seat each. 77 seats were won by independent candidates.

The polls were held on February 9 and the assembly elections are scheduled for next year. The elections were deemed as semifinals before the Assembly polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the party workers for their immense hard work during the polls.
