BJP Wants To Make Vajpayee’s Statue In City

Kolkata: The saffron party wants to set-up a statue of former late prime minister
Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the city. For this, they want the co-oeperation of the
state government and the other political parties.

BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha raised this topic at the condolence meet of Atal
Bihari Vajpayee held at Mahajati Sadan. He said that representatives of several
political parties remained absent at the meet. He added that, “They did not
understand the importance of Atalji. Maybe together respects cannot be paid, but
together initiative can be taken to set-up a statue.”

No representative from the CPM party was present in the condolence meet despite
Left front chairman Biman Bose, CPM state general secretary Suryakanta Mishra and
other leaders being invited. Information and culture Minister of state Indranil Sen
was present. He offered flowers to the deceased leader and left early. Two Congress
leaders Soumya Aich and Debashis Pain was also present at the condolence meet.

On the relation between Marxist leader Jyoti Basu and Vajpayee, Rahul Sinha said,
“Being a BJP worker, I become proud when I think about their respects towards each
other. No respect would have gone if any of them (CPM) would have been present at
Mahajati Sadan.”

On Mamata Banerjee’s invitation to the meet, Sinha said, “Vajpayee jee had touched
someone’s mother’s feet at their house. The betrayal, in return, after one year,
cannot be forgotten. Vajpayeeji had said that – Rahul, dil chota mat karo. (Rahul,
do not be sad). It is still good, some amount of intelligence has come. A minister
had come and paid respects.”
