New Delhi: Veteran Journalist and BJP National Spokesperson M J Akbar have been nominated as Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for the upcoming by-polls to a Rajya Sabha seat from Jharkhand. According to a party statement, “BJP president Amit Shah has decided that M J Akbar will be the party’s candidate for the Jharkhand Rajya Sabha bypoll.”
The by-elections are being held after the resignation Kanwar Deep Singh. It will be held on July 2 and the last date of filing the nominations is June 22 and last day of withdrawal of nomination is June 25.
The bypoll results will be out on July 2 and the tenure of the elected member will be up to July 7, 2016.
Akbar who joined BJP before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls had been a journalist and Editor associated with various publications including India Today, The Asian Age and the Sunday Guardian. He has also authored several non-fictional books.
